"If they did that, they would be obliterated," Trump stated while signing an executive order reinstating maximum sanctions on Iran. "I've left instructions—if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left."
Deep State Denial: Media Downplays Assassination Threats
Despite Iranian officials openly vowing revenge for the 2020 killing of General Qassem Soleimani, and multiple intelligence reports confirming Iranian plots to kill Trump, Newsweek and other legacy media outlets continue to downplay the threats—even dismissing the possibility of a Deep State plot against the president.
Newsweek, which has repeatedly sought to discredit Trump, even cited Alex Jones—who warned that such a statement could be used to set up Trump for assassination—to mock concerns about an inside job. Meanwhile, the Justice Department has already exposed multiple Iranian-linked plots to assassinate Trump, including a case in November 2024 where an Iranian national was charged for allegedly planning a hit on the president.
Yet Newsweek dismisses these threats while conveniently ignoring the July 2024 assassination attempt—even though U.S. intelligence admitted tracking Iranian threats before the shooting.
Maximum Pressure Returns: Trump’s Strategy Against Iran
Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to reinstate the "maximum pressure" campaign, a strategy designed to cripple Iran’s nuclear ambitions by cutting off oil exports and hitting key financial networks with strict sanctions. The U.S. Treasury and State Department will enforce these measures, targeting entities violating U.S. sanctions.
Trump also confirmed that former officials such as Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, and Brian Hook—who were all targeted by Iran—would no longer receive government security protection.
Media’s Narrative vs. Reality
