Al Green (D-TX) for his disruption during President Donald Trump’s congressional address. “There were certain things you just didn’t do,” he said. “What we saw today was rage overcoming reason and lunacy overcoming civility. I don’t know how we got to this point, but it was outrageous—not just what Green did, but the response of his party. As Speaker Johnson tried to restore order, Democrats made a mockery of the chamber.”
As Green was led to the well of the House for the formal censure, his Democratic colleagues surrounded him, singing and shouting in protest, further delaying the chamber’s ability to conduct business. This flagrant disregard for decorum marked yet another escalation in the Democratic Party’s refusal to accept congressional rules and order.
With Democrats in complete disarray, the event served as yet another example of how their party has unraveled in the wake of Trump’s presidency. As the dust settled, the question remained: will the Democratic Party ever reclaim a sense of reason and responsibility, or is this the new normal?
