(Dist. of Criminals), March 5, 2025 — In a stunning display of chaos and defiance, House Democrats staged a protest in the well of the House chamber as Speaker Mike Johnson moved forward with the censure of Rep. Al Green (D-TX) for his disruption during President Donald Trump’s congressional address. What was meant to be a formal rebuke of Green’s behavior quickly spiraled into an unprecedented breakdown of decorum, leaving political analysts and legal experts stunned.
Fox News contributor and legal analyst Professor Turley. weighed in on the spectacle, calling it a "violation on top of a violation." He noted the glaring irony of the moment: Green was being censured for disrupting the business of Congress, and yet Democrats responded by disrupting the proceedings even further.
“They basically held a protest in the well, interrupting the Speaker as he tried to carry out his duties,” said Professor Turley. “The contrast between Speaker Johnson’s calm leadership and the Democratic Party’s behavior was striking. That sound you heard was the Democratic Party hitting rock bottom.”
Professor Turley. emphasized that what Green did was “beyond the pale” and that, in a different era, a bipartisan unanimous vote of censure would have been a given. He recalled his own time as a congressional page at the age of 15, a time when Congress was a revered institution and such outbursts would have been unthinkable.
“There were certain things you just didn’t do,” he said. “What we saw today was rage overcoming reason and lunacy overcoming civility. I don’t know how we got to this point, but it was outrageous—not just what Green did, but the response of his party. As Speaker Johnson tried to restore order, Democrats made a mockery of the chamber.”
As Green was led to the well of the House for the formal censure, his Democratic colleagues surrounded him, singing and shouting in protest, further delaying the chamber’s ability to conduct business. This flagrant disregard for decorum marked yet another escalation in the Democratic Party’s refusal to accept congressional rules and order.
With Democrats in complete disarray, the event served as yet another example of how their party has unraveled in the wake of Trump’s presidency. As the dust settled, the question remained: will the Democratic Party ever reclaim a sense of reason and responsibility, or is this the new normal?
